NO MORE DIGGING FOR LEAD!

The board has voted to prohibit digging or scraping anywhere in the pistol bays and rifle berms by members at all times.  Recovering lead laying on top of the bay ground is fine.

Now that the Bays 3 and 4 projects are complete, the board wants to do what we can to reduce the amount of mud flowing into the drainage pipes and clogging them. One of the problems was weakened berms and more mud from lead recovery by digging in the bays. This made runoff from rain worse that it needed to be.

The new plan for lead recovery will be to have periodic lead harvesting parties where we use the tractor to extract layers of the berms. These will be during the dry season.

The extracted dirt will be transported into lead harvesting piles that are away from the creeks and any water runoff. Lead harvesters may then extract lead from these piles at the party or later. When we’re satisfied with the lead extraction, we’ll use this dirt for range improvements.

We’ll let you know when the first lead harvesting party is next spring.
